In the realm of government examinations, where the pressure is immense and the competition fierce, self-doubt often becomes a constant companion. The journey is not just about preparing for the exams but also about battling the inner demons of past failures and societal judgments. However, the story of Ashcharya Bansal, an IES Officer, and a beacon of perseverance, demonstrates the power of self-belief and hard work.

Struggle and Self-Realization

Ashcharya’s academic journey began with modest achievements. Scoring 53% in his 10th board exams, he found himself distanced from his circle of high-achieving friends. This initial setback, however, became the catalyst for his transformation. Realizing the importance of his studies, he dedicated himself to his academics, eventually scoring 72% in his 12th boards. Despite this improvement, the path was not smooth. Failing to clear the IIT JEE exam and securing a rank in lakhs in AIEEE meant that he could not get into a government college. Undeterred, he enrolled in a private college in Haryana, choosing Mechanical Engineering almost by chance while standing in the queue the boys in front of him were choosing the Mechanical Branch. 

Rising Through the Ranks

Ashcharya’s determination to prove himself was evident in his college years. From securing the 4th rank in his first semester to topping his university, he demonstrated that past performance is not indicative of future potential. Yet, another challenge awaited him. His academic past haunted him during campus placements, as companies had a criterion of a minimum of 60% in both 10th and 12th boards. Frustrated but not defeated, he turned his focus towards preparing for government exams, specifically targeting Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs).

The journey to cracking government exams was not straightforward. Initially, his arrogance as a university topper led to failures. It was only after introspection and seeking guidance from successful peers that he began to understand the nuances of these exams. Focusing on General Studies, English, aptitude, reasoning, and technical subjects, he gradually honed his skills. His efforts bore fruit when he cracked the GATE exam in 2008 and the Engineering Services exam in 2015 and 2016, among others.

Lessons Learnt and Success Achieved

Ashcharya’s story is not just about his achievements but also about the lessons he learned along the way. He emphasizes that his intention in sharing his journey is not to boast but to inspire others to believe in their capabilities. He firmly believes that every individual is unique and that comparing oneself to others is a disservice to one’s own potential. According to him, God helps those who help themselves, and it is crucial to be disciplined and patient, especially when preparing for competitive exams.

The competition in government exams is intense, often pitting candidates against students from premier institutions like IITs and NITs. Ashcharya advises aspirants to dedicate at least a year to sincere and focused preparation, managing time effectively, and learning from mistakes. His journey from being content with just passing exams to becoming an ex-IAS officer and cracking 17 government exams is a testament to the fact that with determination and hard work, no goal is unattainable.
