Anuj Singhal, the esteemed managing editor of CNBC Awaaz, has captivated television audiences for two decades, initially with CNBC TV18 and now with CNBC Awaaz. Throughout his career, his unwavering focus on stock market analysis has guided his path.
Early Years and Education
Born in 1980 in the humble village of Haileymandi in Haryana, India, Anuj’s early life was marked by his father’s banking job, which necessitated frequent relocations. Despite these transitions, Anuj completed his primary education in Gurgaon, Allahabad, and Ratlam. He subsequently attended Kendriya Vidyalaya Central School, a system designed to facilitate transfers to locations corresponding with his father’s postings.
Initially an exceptional athlete and academic, Anuj’s rebellious streak emerged upon moving to Delhi, where he neglected his studies in favor of movies and social gatherings. Consequently, his academic performance suffered.
Undeterred, he pursued a degree in economics at Rajdhani College in Delhi, recognizing his aptitude for mathematics and reasoning. Despite the challenges posed by the rigorous coursework, he successfully graduated.
MBA and Career Exploration
Concurrent with his economics studies, Anuj’s interest in the stock market was ignited by a computer course. Inspired, he decided to take the Common Admission Test (CAT) for admission to the renowned Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs). Despite his initial lack of optimism, he received an invitation for an interview in Lucknow.
Although his interview bid was unsuccessful, the experience fueled his determination to pursue an MBA. He enrolled in an MBA program but soon realized that his true passion lay elsewhere. The stock market continued to captivate his attention, leading him to explore opportunities at Economic Times, Financial Express, and Business Standard.
Through the connections of a faculty member, Anuj secured a summer training opportunity at CNBC. His enthusiasm and impressive contributions caught the attention of his editor, who extended an offer for a full-time position. However, Anuj opted to complete his MBA first.
Joining CNBC
On January 30, 2003, after graduating with an MBA, Anuj received a job offer from CNBC. Eager to embark on his career, he joined the team on Monday, earning a salary of Rs 12,000 per month, a substantial sum at the time.
Two Decades at CNBC
Anuj’s tenure at CNBC has spanned 21 years, a testament to his dedication and expertise. During this remarkable journey, he has gained invaluable knowledge about the stock market, journalism, and the importance of perseverance. He has covered major financial events and interviewed countless business leaders, solidifying his position as an industry authority.
